CCTV

As a Company we have installed two integrated COMS/CCTV systems for Dyfed-Powys Police, in Carmarthen and Aberystwyth.  In Surrey COMS is integrated with another supplier's CCTV.

Integration is achieved using a serial RS232 link between the COMS PC and the CCTV control PC.  In Dyfed -Powys the CCTV control PC runs Visimetrics Fastar DVRs.

The purpose of the link is to provide the CCTV system with real time cell state events, in order that the optimum recording rates can be used when necessary and efficiently manage hard disk storage needs.

Recording rates:

  • Background recording rate - 1fps 24hr timelapse
  • VMD - 24fps
  • Door closed with occupant - 6fps
  • Amber Alert - 24fps
  • Red Alert - 24fps
  • All rates are variable to suit user requirements

We believe it is inadequate to run on VMD when the cell is occupied.  Sleeping detainees will not create enough motion for detection and thus the fps rate will revert to the timelapse setting; 1fps is not fast enough to be able to see all movement.  In addition it is common for VMD recordings to miss the first few seconds of detected motion.
